How does the All on 4 procedure work?

The bone at the front of your jaw is denser and stronger. By placing two of the implants at an angle,all ofthe replacement teeth can be supported on just four implants with one bridge. The entire row of teeth is therefore supported by the strongest bone.

No dentures

Firstly, the four implants are placed with a provisional bridge meaning you won’t need to wear a denture during the healing phase. After the healing period, this is replaced by the final permanent bridge, which is made of acrylic or porcelain.

What is all on 4 dental implants?

The all on 4 dental implants procedure is where a realistic looking, feeling and functioning denture arch (prosthetic teeth and gums) is permanently fixed in place using only 4 dental implants.

How do all on 4 dental implants differ from single dental implants?

The all on 4 dental implant procedure is fairly new. The first ever Nobel Biocare All-on-4 treatment was completed in 1998 by Dr. Paulo Malo prior to this, permanent dentures were fixed using multiple implants or individual implants and crowns were placed.

Am I suitable for all on 4 dental implants?

There are a number of key factors affecting whether you are suitable for all on 4 dental implants including bone density i.e. enough bone for normal length dental implants to anchor sufficiently to your jaw; oral health i.e. the condition of your natural gums and their ability to heal* or whether you have any other medical conditions that might affect the procedure. *Ability to heal can be affected by whether you smoke and how much you smoke (and drink).

What does the all on 4 dental implants procedure involve?

We will invite you in for an initial consultation and can include a detailed implant assessment if you’ve travelled far.

The detailed assessment includes an extended oral examination, X-rays, study models, and preparation of detailed treatment plan.

You will then receive a detailed treatment plan with options and costs. You implant placement appointment will take at least half a day. You’ll arrive in the morning, be sedated, we will place the implants and fit your temporary low-pressure bridge.

The implants will take approximately six months to properly fuse with the bone in your jaw. You will be invited for an assessment where a further impression of your gums will be taken from which your final bridge will be designed to look, feel and function like real teeth.

How long does the all on 4 dental implants procedure take?

Depending upon appointment times and availability the all on 4 dental implants procedure normally takes between 6 and 8 months.

Does the all on 4 dental implants procedure hurt?
