Canada Imports Rise 0.2% MoM in December
Imports to Canada edged up 0.2% to $64.39 billion in December, despite witnessing declines in 8 of the 11 product sections. Notably, imports of consumer goods rose by 9.4%, marking the strongest growth on record. Imports of metal & non-metallic mineral products (+5.8%) also contributed to the overall increase in December. On the other hand, imports of motor vehicles & parts (-2.1%), electronic and electrical equipment & parts (-5.7%), energy products (-9.9%), and aircraft & other transportation equipment and parts (-11.7%) all decreased to almost entirely offset the positive effect of the other product sections.

Canada Imports Rise 1.9% in November
Imports to Canada rose 1.9% to CAD 64.2 billion in November 2023, led by an increase in energy imports (11.6%) amid significant buying of uranium for Kazakhstan, consistent with mining troubles from domestic Cameco mines. Additionally, imports of refined petroleum products rose by 18.8%, mainly due to purchases of gasoline and aviation fuel, and aligned with the outages in Canadian refineries in the period.
