Sky TV: Add Sky Sports for just £22 a month

Sky's offer price for existing customers includes the complete Sky Sports pack for just £22 per month extra for 18 months.

This deal is available to Sky Q, Sky Stream and Sky Glass TV customers, and includes all Sky Sports channels in full HD.

The usual price for this deal is £34 per month with Sky Q and £27 per month with Stream or Glass, so customers can currently save themselves up to £12 a month, or £216 over the length of the 18-month plan.

Those who live in a Virgin Media enabled area can get the cheapest Sky Sports and broadband bundle with the new Virgin Stream service.

The Sky Sports HD pack is currently reduced to just £18.75 per month on Stream, and customers get an additional 10% off with Stream Credit. M125 Fibre Broadband for new customers costs just £26.50 per month, and users who sign up via this site also get a £55 bill credit offer.

Alternatively, offer a cheap way to get Sky Sports with a broadband bundle, however, like the Virgin Stream offer NOW TV is really just the Sky Sports channels with nothing else.

While it's possible to also add NOW's Entertainment pack for more channels, it costs an extra £10 per month, and there is still no option to get a faster broadband speed.

There are also other limitations with NOW, such as the inability to pause and rewind key moments in live matches, which customers can do with a Virgin Stream or Sky Stream box.

Sky's new Stream service is also a great way to watch Sky Sports, and is currently only £1.01 more per month than the NOW broadband & Sports bundle. Customers will get the channels in full 1080p HD, plus an additional 150 channels, and support for a range of on-demand apps through the Sky box.

Virgin Media also offer a good price for Sky Sports with their Bigger Bundle + Sports HD deal on the TV 360 platform. Customers get over 190 channels and the Sky Sports pack, which has now been boosted to full 1080p HD.

Broadband on the Bigger Bundle + Sports deal is around four times faster than the cheapest Sky Sports deals from NOW, Sky and BT's cheapest Sky Sports bundles. However, as with Virgin Stream, availability may be more limited so that's worth checking.

There are still deals on Sky Sports available to those who want faster broadband speeds, however monthly prices do go up.

Virgin Media's Stream deal above can be taken with M500 broadband, where customers can get a £70 bill credit through this site, as well as money off Sky Sports, or they can take Virgin Media TV 360 service in the Bigger Volt bundle + Sports, which also includes a range of other live TV channels.

Customers taking Sky Sports with Sky can opt for Ultrafast Plus with 500Mbps average download speeds, and still save £5 per month on the Sky Sports pack, as well as benefit from a reduced price on Ultrafast Plus of just £21 per month for 18 months.

BT also still offer a Reward Card to customers taking faster broadband deals, and this can still be bundled with the Big Sport pack which includes Sky Sports and TNT Sports.

TalkTalk customers can opt for their Full Fibre 500 plan and gain access to Sky Sports through a NOW Sports subscription. However, there aren't any offers available at the time of writing, so it costs the usual full price of £34.99 per month, plus the TalkTalk TV fee of £5 per month, although this does include NOW Boost.

Overall, like-for-like comparisons aren't entirely straightforward, but the cheapest way to get Sky Sports for those who want faster broadband remains with Virgin Media Stream.

However, other providers including Sky and Virgin 360 can sometimes work out better for faster broadband when customers also want a good amount of additional TV content.

Sky Sports in HD

The Sky Sports bundles we've covered above give us some insight into the cheapest Sky Sports offers, but it's not the whole picture.

Sky include Sky Sports in 1080p HD as standard, as does TalkTalk TV, while BT and NOW offer Sky Sports in 720p HD, with the option to upgrade to 1080p HD with the Boost add-on for an extra £6 per month.

Virgin Media offer Sky Sports in HD with Stream, and they've recently upgraded their Bigger Bundle + Sports pack to HD, it's also included in HD in the top-end Mega Volt Bundle (now Mega Volt) on the TV 360 platform.

Now the Bigger Bundle + Sports has been upgraded to full HD, the Ultimate Volt Bundle, while it offers more content such as Netflix and Sky Cinema, as well as gigabit broadband, is a bigger step up money-wise, costing an extra £20 per month.

Overall then, while Virgin Stream is the cheapest option for watching Sky Sports in HD in a TV and broadband bundle, customers will only get Freeview channels, unless they opt for Sky Stream or Virgin TV 360 instead which bundles over 150 extra channels.

Sky Sports in Ultra HD

Virgin Media added Sky Sports Ultra HD as an option for V6 and TV 360 customers in February 2023, bringing their platform in line with Sky TV.

It costs an extra £7 per month on top of a HD subscription, so Bigger Bundle customers now only need to pay £7, along with Ultimate Volt customers, as they both already have HD.

Sky Sports UHD is also now available to add to Virgin Stream for an extra £7 per month too.

With Sky, the Ultra HD upgrade for Sky Sports costs an extra £6 per month, so depending on bundle choices this can make them the slightly cheaper option for Sky Sports in Ultra HD and HDR.

BT, TalkTalk and NOW don't offer the ability to watch Sky Sports in Ultra HD.

Sky Sports offers with TV only

While the most savings are likely to be made by bundling TV with broadband, for those who just want a separate TV package, it's possible to get Sky Sports in a TV-only deal directly with Sky.

The advent of Sky Stream and Sky Glass, both allow customers to watch Sky TV over their broadband connection, so there's no longer any need to install a satellite dish and customers aren't tied to Sky for broadband.

Sky are currently offering money off Sky Sports and Sky Entertainment along with free setup with Sky Stream, saving customers £14 per month.

Customers who want to sign up to Sky Glass will also save on Sky Entertainment & Netflix with a £4 monthly discount for the first 18 months, and an additional £5 off the Sky Sports pack. It's a good offer for those considering the Sky Glass set, and it's also possible to add Sky broadband during the checkout process too.

It's worth noting however, that the Sky Sports with Sky Stream deal above saves only £18 per month over the Sky broadband and TV bundle, which isn't enough to get broadband from another provider.

So, while it's possible to take Sky Sports with a TV-only package, the cheapest way to get Sky Sports is in a TV and broadband bundle, as otherwise households will end up paying more to get a separate broadband subscription.

NOW TV Memberships

While NOW TV Memberships can be taken with NOW Broadband for extra savings as we've covered above, and both BT and TalkTalk allow customers to add a NOW Sports Membership to their plans, it's also an option for customers to take a NOW TV Membership on its own.

However, while these prices look cheap, if households also have broadband plans they will always get the best prices by bundling services.

What NOW does offer is the option to access Sky Sports for just one day, for example if a particularly big match is on. Day memberships also come with 6 months access to five Sky Sports channels on a smartphone device only.

While the Sports Membership from NOW contains just the Sky Sports channels, it is possible to get extra content by taking out additional memberships including Entertainment and Cinema.

However, it's worth noting NOW misses out on a dedicated TV box, so while content is on-demand there's no way to record TV to a set top box, and viewers can't pause and rewind key moments like goals in live matches. It also misses out on the extra channels and features that come with a premium pay TV deal, like access to TNT Sports and Eurosport channels for example.

Getting the best Sky Sports deal

Price is a big factor when looking for the best Sky Sports deal, yet as we've seen, each provider offers slightly different access to Sky Sports channels, which may suit some and not others.

Therefore, making sure you get the best Sky Sports deal will come down to also considering other factors such as the channels included, whether they're in SD, HD, or even 4K Ultra HD, what the minimum contract term is and whether there is any flexibility.

Sky Sports channels

While each TV provider has become increasingly similar in their channel line-up for Sky Sports, there are some minor differences.

Sky, Virgin Media, BT, TalkTalk, and NOW TV all offer access to all 12 Sky Sports channels, including:

Sky TV customers will get access to Sky Sports Mix, Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Racing whether they take the Sky Sports pack or not.

Whereas, Virgin Media customers only get Sky Sports Racing with the Big Bundle, and will have to take the Bigger Bundle to get Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Mix, unless of course they upgrade to the full Sky Sports pack.

Virgin Media Stream customers won't get Sky Sports Main Event, and Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports News are only included in the Essential Entertainment pack, which costs extra.

Both Sky and Virgin Media give customers some Sky Sports content without needing to spend any extra money on the full pack.

Because BT and TalkTalk rely on NOW TV Memberships for their access to Sky Sports, customers of these providers don't get any free Sky Sports content.

The new Sky Sports Tennis channel, due to launch from 11th February 2024, will be made available to all customers on complete Sky Sports subscriptions whether they watch via Sky, Virgin Media, or NOW.

Sky Sports in HD and Ultra HD

While we touched on the cheapest way to get Sky Sports in HD above, it's worth taking another look at how each provider compares for HD viewing.

Virgin Media added access to Sky Sports Ultra HD content for new and existing V6 and TV 360 customers in February 2023, although this costs an extra £7 per month on top of the Sky Sports HD subscription, or an extra £14 if customers have Sky Sports in SD on their plan. Sky Sports UHD is also now available on Stream for £7 per month.

Sky are the only provider to include Sky Sports in 1080p HD as standard, although as we've looked at above, for total bundle cost, Virgin Media often work out as the cheapest way to watch Sky Sports when looking at like-for-like plans.

Lastly, while TalkTalk offer access to NOW Sports Memberships, they also include NOW Boost for free, which means customers who subscribe to Sky Sports get the channels in full 1080p HD.

Sky Sports on-demand

For those who want to be able to watch Sky Sports on the go, it's worth knowing which providers allow access to the Sky Sports pack content on their smartphone or tablet when they're out and about.

Sky's Sky Go app allows all Sky customers to access their full TV content, including premium channel packs like Sky Sports, when they're on the go. Sky Go is included for free for all Sky TV customers.

An upgrade to Sky Go, Sky Go Extra, costs £5 per month, or comes free with Sky Q Experience, and allows customers to also download content to watch later, and includes app access on more devices including the Xbox and PlayStation.

Virgin Media TV subscribers can download the Sky Sports app, where they can access content they've subscribed to on a range of devices including smartphones and tablets.

NOW TV subscribers can also access live streaming and on-demand sports content through a range of devices including smartphones, tablets, laptops and gaming consoles. However, unless NOW customers have a Boost subscription they can only watch on one device at the time, although up to six can be registered to the account.

NOW Boost allows customers to watch on up to three devices at the same time, which may be useful for larger homes where occupants want to watch different things.

Sky Sports with TNT Sports

Some sports fans might want to combine a Sky Sports and TNT Sports subscription to ensure they don't miss any important matches, especially now more Premium League games are spread across different platforms.

TNT Sports is the new name for BT Sport, and offers all the same channels and sporting fixtures, including the same number of Premier League games, and exclusive rights to the Champions League.

For families and households who also want a premium TV service and a broadband connection, bundling Sky Sports in a deal is the best way to save the most money.

Virgin Media Stream is the cheapest way to watch Sky Sports, with the channels included in full HD and customers can pause and rewind key moments live. It's also now possible to access Sky Sports UHD for an extra £7 per month.

Sky also offers the ability to watch Sky Sports through their new Sky Stream service on a more flexible basis, and customers can save money by bundling Sky broadband. Sky are also the cheapest place to watch Sky Sports in Ultra HD for those with a 4K TV.
