Maybe you’re trying to make the finishing touches on a halloween costume by adding fake teeth or are simply making them for fun, but with some basic materials, you can sport a homemade smile in no time. The first method will yield a better, higher quality set of fake teeth, but if you have limited time and supplies on hand, the second method will help you create a more basic set of fake teeth.
Method 1
Method 1 of 2:
Using Fake Nails
1
Gather your materials. Though you may need to take a trip to your local drugstore or craft store to purchase some of these materials, they should all be relatively affordable and easy to find. You will need:[1]
- A pack of fake white nails
- A bottle of liquid latex, available at costume shops or Halloween stores
- A nail file
- Nail clippers
- Tweezers
- A plastic bag
- A notebook
- A paint brush
- A bottle of loose, nude colored powder
- A bottle of white paint
- A bottle of red paint
2
Open the pack of fake white nails. Choose a medium length nail and use the nail clippers to trim it down so it is the appropriate size and shape for a tooth.[2]
3
Trim down the other nails until you have a pile of 16 “teeth”. Keep in mind you will need four larger teeth to make two front teeth on the top and two front teeth on the bottom, as well as 12 smaller teeth.
- You can also draw the shape of a tooth on the nail and cut it out based on the drawing.
4
Use a nail file to smooth down the edges of the teeth. You just want to make the teeth look round and smooth so don’t file them too hard as this could make them appear uneven.
5
Wrap the notebook with the plastic bag. If you are using a large Ziploc bag, simply slide the notebook into the bag and place it on an even surface.
6
Open the bottle of liquid latex. Use the non brush end of the paint brush and dip the tip into the latex.[3]
7
Make a flat triangle shape on the plastic bag. Use the latex covered paint brush to draw out a flat triangle shape that is about the size of your mouth.
- Do several layers of the latex in the flat triangle shape on the plastic bag and then fill in the triangle with the liquid latex.
8
Use the tweezers to add the “teeth” to the latex. Lay the teeth out one by one onto the long side of the latex triangle, forming a top row of teeth.[4]
- It’s important to get the teeth onto the latex before it dries so try to place the teeth on as carefully and quickly as possible.
- If the latex triangle is not long enough to fit all of the teeth, use a latex covered paint brush to extend the length of the triangle.
9
Make another flat triangle shape on the plastic bag. This triangle will be for the bottom row of teeth. Use tweezers to add the teeth to the latex one by one, just as you did for the top row of teeth.
10
Let the latex dry. It should take about 15-20 minutes to dry completely.[5] The latex may turn a slightly yellowish color once it dries.
11
Take the bottle of loose, nude powder. Using a make up brush, dab powder onto the latex.
- It’s important to apply powder to the latex before peeling it off the plastic to ensure it maintains its shape.
12
Mix together the white paint and the red paint to paint the gums on the teeth. You want a light pink color to match the color of gums.
- Cover the white latex completely with the paint, but avoid getting paint on the teeth.
13
Let the paint dry and then peel the teeth off the plastic. You should now have a set of cool looking latex teeth.

Method 2
Method 2 of 2:
Using Plastic Cups
1
Buy plastic cups. Choose cups that are made out of white, thin, disposable plastic, as you’ll want white material that is easy to cut.
2
Draw the shape of the teeth on the cup. Take a permanent marker and draw the desired shape of your teeth on the outside of the plastic cup.
3
Cut out the teeth. Get a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the lines you've drawn to cut out the teeth.
4
Attach them to your mouth. The best place to attach them is behind your upper lip and in front of your teeth, where they can't fall out.
- Check the teeth out in the mirror to ensure they are the desired size and look secure in your mouth.
- If the fake teeth start to split you can use dental floss to tie them back together.

How do I make just one tooth that is 3 dimensional and looks almost like a real tooth?

Article SummaryX
For realistic fake teeth, trim 16 white fake nails to the shape and size of teeth, with 2 larger nails for the front teeth. Use a file to smooth the edges and sides to make the tooth look more realistic. Then, paint liquid latex in a triangle shape onto a plastic bag on a flat surface. While the latex is wet, press 8 of the fake teeth face-down along one edge of the triangle and let it dry for the top row of teeth. Paint another triangle with the latex and make the bottom row with the remaining 8 teeth. For tips on using plastic cups to make a basic set of fake teeth, keep reading!
