Who doesn’t love the taste of clumps of peanuts surrounded by rich chocolate? Well, today is the day to indulge. March 8 is National Peanut Cluster Day.

Chocolates and peanuts are both popular tastes that have their own national days. National Peanut Day is honored on September 13.

Even without peanuts involved, chocolate gets a bunch of their own national days. October 28 is National Chocolate Day, and July 7 is World Chocolate day.

But for today, we get to combine the sweet and salty tastes into one delicious bite for National Peanut Cluster Day.

What are peanut clusters?

The snack is made by melting chocolate and adding peanuts into the mixture and then stirring them into cluster like shapes.

What ingredients are in peanut clusters?

The recipe varies from recipe to recipe but many recipes use some combination of White candy coating, semisweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips and dry roasted peanuts.

They get dropped by spoonfuls on to a silicone mat or parchment paper and then you let them harden. Presto! A peanut cluster!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds white candy coating, chopped
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 11-1/2 ounces milk chocolate chips
  • 5 cups dry roasted peanuts, salted

Instructions

  1. Combine the white candy coating and chocolate chips in a heavy saucepan over low heat.
  2. Stir the mixture until it has melted and is smooth and glossy.
  3. Cool for about 10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the dry roasted peanuts.
  5. Drop the mixture by rounded spoonfuls onto a silicone mat or parchment paper.
  6. Place in the fridge until firm.
