From full dentures to partial dentures, fixed bridges, dental implants and beyond, there are plenty of choices to consider. Dental Implants
Dental implants are a permanent solution for tooth loss. The surgeon places dental implants by connecting a metal screw to the jaw bone. This serves as an anchor for the new tooth. Dental implants are somewhat costly yet they are well worth the money. They do not slip or move after placement. Furthermore, they are comfortable and look like normal teeth. Dental implants are also revered for the fact that they decrease wear and rubbing of the gums.
Implant-retained Dentures
This is a stable type of denture that connects to titanium abutments implanted in the jaw’s bony tissue. Discuss implant-retained dentures with your dentist to determine if it is the ideal oral health solution for your mouth.
A Fixed Bridge
A fixed bridge is a false tooth along with a cap or crown connected to one of the sides. The crown is positioned above the current teeth, anchoring the fake tooth in the open space. The acrylic bridge is connected with the use of dental cement to form a robust bond that stands the test of time.
Full Dentures
This is a full set of teeth that can be taken out at night or any other time for cleaning. The resin or acrylic false teeth are connected to a plate that fits along the roof of the mouth. The dentures are held in place with suction. Patients sometimes find dental adhesives minimize slipping. The dentist will have to remove all the teeth in the mouth prior to fitting you for full dentures. Your mouth will require time to heal. This could take upwards of a couple months.
In some cases, it is necessary for the dentures to be reshaped in a process referred to as debasing. This is required as the mouth changes its shape over time. Debasing involves the removal of the current false teeth from the dentures and subsequent re-installation to new plates that prove to be a much better fit.
A Partial Denture
A partial denture is comprised of a series of teeth linked with an acrylic or metal band. Sometimes referred to as a Maryland bridge, this style of denture connects to existing teeth with the use of resin cement or metal clasps. The band sticks to the back portion of the teeth, preventing it from being seen by others. This is the optimal solution to replace missing teeth in the front portion of the mouth without compromising patient aesthetics.
