La metodología permite dirigir, precisar, objetivar, generalizar, comparar, experimentar, etc., todo el conjunto de elementos participantes en su definición, con la finalidad de otorgarles el carácter de procesos científicos. 2. La metodología es útil para orientar la forma como se resuelve el problema de investigación: qué se va a investigar, cuál es el propósito del estudio, a quién se va a investigar, cómo y de qué manera se va a efectuar la investigación, con qué tipo de recursos se cuenta para ello, dónde se llevará a cabo, durante cuánto tiempo, etc. 3. En el contexto de la investigación científica, la metodología permite ordenar los procesos de investigación en la fase de la experimentación y, al mismo tiempo, los estructura y sistematiza para determinar el procedimiento general que se usara para obtener conocimiento nuevo, es decir, determinar el método. 4. Por lo anterior, la metodología es parte del proceso de investigación y su sustento científico se basa en teoría y leyes (positivismo, racionalismo, empirismo, constructivismo, etc.) en las cuales se desarrolla la investigación. 5. Las teorías explican y dan conceptos sobre los fenómenos naturales (ambientales) o sociales que ocurren en la vida de los seres vivos.
