What is the difference between Lego Mindstorms EV3 home and education? ›

While the two versions of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 offer a similar experience, the Education Edition is designed for classroom use while the Home Edition is the best pick for individual LEGO® fans to use at home. Printed instructions are included for Robot Educator. All others are in software.

LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Core Set is a hands-on, cross-curricular STEM solution that engages students by providing the resources to design build and program their creations while helping them develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

What are the advantages of EV3? The EV3 is a fantastic resource for teaching beginners basic robotics skills. It provides creative, hands-on practice. For those who already have robotics experience, the kit is a fun tool for expressing creativity and fine-tuning programming skills.

The LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Programmer app will be removed from current app stores at the end of June 2021. The retired LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Home Edition software for Mac and PC (Labview) can be found further down. Please notice this software is no longer supported by the LEGO Group.

The press release cites “… a number of priorities in LEGO Education and other Build & Code experiences, we have decided to focus our resources and future plans by redirecting our MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor team and their expertise into different areas of the business. ” What could these priorities be?

That's a big development cost, because LEGO has a lot of proprietary components. The EV3 comes with quite a few electronic components— the programmable brick, 2 large motors, 1 smaller motor, infrared sensor, color sensor, touch sensor, remote control, 7 wires, and a USB cable. That adds a lot to the cost.

Overall it's a great robot for kids to learn how to program and it's a lot of fun to have. We also use this robot with our first Lego league team and it does great with the slight modification of adding a rechargeable battery pack. 5 stars but software makes it too easy to skip programming.....

You can now use your EV3 Brick to unleash the power of Python programming using MicroPython. Simply install the EV3 MicroPython image onto any micro SD card and boot up your EV3 Brick from it to start programming straight away.

Why would LEGO discontinue one of their best-ever selling product lines, particularly EV3? They're focusing on Education Enterprise and the Spike Education sets are considered successors to Mindstorms EV3.

MINDSTORMS Education EV3 will no longer be available for purchase starting June 30th, 2021. LEGO Education will continue to support the current apps for two years from the exit date.

Lego Education (formerly known as Lego Dacta and stylized as LEGO education) is a Lego theme designed specifically for schools that concentrates sets that can be used by education institutions and includes sets that focus on Duplo and Technic themes and contain larger amounts of pieces.

An eLearning program is included for educators. The system includes the EV3 Intelligent Brick, a compact and powerful programmable computer that makes it possible to control motors and collect sensor feedback using the intuitive icon-based programming and data logging software that is delivered with the set.

As well as teaching children the basics of programming, Lego Robotics can also help them hone their problem-solving skills. Much like traditional Lego builds, children will have to build their robots from the ground up and, at times, they may find themselves stuck or unsure of what to do next.
